It always seems like there’s something fun to do in the area with our Goldens…..dog walks, dog parks, frolicking at the beach, holiday events and parades. While rescuing is a LOT of work, it can also be a lot of FUN! Part of our mission at Coastal is to include the local Golden Retriever community in our efforts: to educate others about this wonderful breed, to teach responsible ownership, to discuss health and training issues, and to partner with others to reduce the number of homeless and abandoned Goldens in shelters.

2014 BEACH GATHERING – HANNA PARK – April 5, 2014

We are excited to announce our first Beach Gathering for 2014!  Please plan to join us with your pooch on Saturday, April 5, from 9:00 – 11:00 at Hanna Park. We will be on the beach, in front of Parking Lot 9, and would love to see everyone there for some beach fun!

Turn right onto Wonderwood Drive, go one-half mile and enter Hanna Park. It costs $3.00 per car to get into the park and they suggest we park in PARKING LOT 9 and access the beach there (less crowded). All dogs must be on leashes, and we must clean up after our dogs.
Hope to see you there!

April, 2012

Bark in the Park

Party Dogs on Spring Break at the 3rd Annual Bark in the Park at the Orange Park Mall.  Coastal’s booth was in the middle of the action, and we were able to meet so many wonderful dog lovers!

March, 2012

All About The Dog

At the invitation of Kevin at All About the Dog, Coastal set up a booth at AATD during the March 2012 Jacksonville Fine Arts Festival.  We had a great time meeting so many people walking through the Boone Park and Shoppes of Avondale area during the event, many also walking with their dogs!  Thank you Kevin for this fun and exciting opportunity!!

In April, Coastal was again invited by Kevin Nichols to set up a booth inside All About the Dog to help celebrate their 3rd Anniversary!  As you can see from the picture, a fun time was had by all – dogs and humans!

February, 2012

Coastal  celebrated “National Dog Lover’s Month” at the Farmers Market in the community of Nocatee in Ponte Vedra on February 18.  Thanks to all of you who dropped by our booth to say hello to some of our beautiful Golden Retrievers.  We appreciate you!

October, 2011

On October 30, Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue held its first Foster Fest at Fresh Prints Pet Lodge.  Many of our wonderful fosters were there with their own dogs, as well as dogs they are currently fostering for Coastal.  It was hard to tell who had the most fun – the foster moms and dads, or the Goldens!!  Entries in our best Halloween costume were hilarious, ranging from the 3 Little Pigs, to Superman, bunnies, punk rockers, princesses, angels, and much more.  What a fun way to recognize and acknowledge our tremendous appreciation for all of our foster families.  Without our fosters, the rescue would not exist.  Thank you for your Golden hearts

June 2011:

On June 11th , Coastal participated in the 16th Annual Florida State Frisbee Disc Championships at Mandarin Senior High School. Our booth featured a wealth of rescue information, friendly volunteers to answer your questions, and plenty of dog-related gifts to purchase for pooches and people. The best part? ALL monies raised at our booth provided medical care and necessities for rescued Coastal Goldens!

We had a variety of furry visitors, a lot of fun, and front row seats to the show! Our thanks to all who stopped by to say hello, signed up to volunteer, and to Pawsitive Life Magazine for inviting us to this wonderful event!

April 2011:

Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue Volunteers and their festive Golden Retrievers celebrated April 24th, 2011, in tropical style during the 53rd Annual St. Augustine Easter Parade! Riding on a colorful 20’ float decorated with palm trees, Easter baskets, and colorful umbrellas, the Old City crowd welcomed and cheered for all our smiling, bunny-eared rescue Goldens.

Along the route, Coastal volunteers and their furry companions were greeted with “Ooohs!”, “Awws!” and cheers of support from thousands of parade spectators. Our mission was to spread the word about rescue organizations, the amazing dogs available for adoption, and the overwhelming joys and rewards of saving a lovable Golden’s life.

Gorgeous weather, smiling faces, and a most Blessed Easter Day were enjoyed by all who attended this annual tradition. The Goldens and Volunteers at Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue of Florida definitely look forward to celebrating Easter with the residents and visitors of St. Augustine again next year!

March 2011:

The Coastal “Golden Gathering” for March was a blast at Fresh Prints Pet Lodge and Day Resort in Jacksonville! This off-leash dog park was Golden-packed full of fun. We enjoyed meeting up with more Golden friends and furry faces who loved splashing in the doggie pools and chasing tennis balls from anyone willing to throw them.

February 2011:

“Save Your Sweetheart” at Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services

Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue supported our local Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services by participating in their “Save Your Sweetheart” event on Saturday, Feb. 12th . The event promoted rescue awareness and pet adoptions of stray and abandoned dogs and cats at the shelter. Wagging tails, friendly faces, beautiful weather and silly Goldens made for a fun day, all for a worthy cause!

In February, our ever-growing “Golden Gathering” event was at Mickler’s Landing Beach Walk, located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Gorgeous 70* weather and blue skies made for a perfect day! Click on any of the photos below for a larger view.

January 2011:

Our January “Golden Gathering” was held at Kathryn Abbey Hannah Park in Jacksonville. Please click on the photos below for a larger view.

This 1.5-mile public beachfront is located just outside Mayport Naval Air Station. The 447 acres is a mature coastal hammock, which is increasingly rare to find along Florida’s heavily developed Atlantic coast.

We enjoyed walking along the water’s edge with our Goldens, then feasted on hot dogs, chips and desserts under the shade of a park cabana. Our Golden Gatherings are always FREE events (except for park admission fees) and we welcome all Golden Retriever owners to join us for fun and fellowship!

December 2010:

“Festival of Trees” at the World Golf Village

“Santa Paws”, Coastal’s entry in the St. Augustine’s World Golf Village “Festival of Trees”, was a big hit! Entered in the category of “Spirit of the First Coast” our brightly decorated palm tree, adorable Golden Retriever sculpture with his huge bag of doggie toys, and Santa Paw’s list of “good” dogs, brought many smiles and much laughter to those in attendance….not to mention lots of cell phone photos!

This family friendly event full of holiday cheer is an excellent way for Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue to educate the local community about displaced Goldens in area shelters who need medical care, a safe home, and a loving heart. It is also a way for us to give back to our community – by supporting two local charities – The Empty Stocking Fund and United Way of St. Johns County.

“Paws at the Pier” at St. Augustine Beach

PAWS AT THE PIER was a new, but awesome event that benefited Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). This non-profit organization provides highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities and to professional caregivers providing pet assisted therapy.

Candy Monette of CCI invited us to participate in this pet friendly event that included a fundraising walk, merchandise for sale, a silent auction, food vendors, raffles, pet photographer, Kids Zone, Bounce Houses, and the World Famous Frisbee- Dogs.

This December event was fun and exciting
and turned out to be another great day
of meeting new friends in the canine world.

November 2010:
St. Johns Golf & Country Club Annual Holiday Shopping Night

November turned out to be an extra special month for the rescue, thanks to a special invitation from Sharon and Brent Brown. So many people stopped by our table to shop for doggie treats, toys, ornaments, and sweaters, and to learn more about
Coastal Golden Retriever Rescue.

October 2010:
“Barktoberfest” at Paws Park in Jacksonville Beach

Coastal headed to Paws Park at Jacksonville Beach for our first “official” rescue event in October – Barktoberfest!  Seeing all the different dog breeds dressed in their Halloween best was a riot, and the new friendships we formed made the event even more meaningful.

A very big Thank You to Paws Park and Jakki Roberts for including us in this fun day. We hope to make it an annual event for Coastal!
